I’m a sucker for a good monster movie. In 1978, a monster from the sea film was released by the name of “SPAWN OF THE SLITHIS” or some just call it “SLITHIS.” It concerns a nuclear power plant, some nuclear waste and an angry fish monster that kills. How can you go wrong with that? The answer is simple: you can’t.
We begin with some mutilated dogs and that soon turns into dead humans, which turns the head of a teacher that is sure that we have a monster on our hands. When he visits a homeless man that came face to face with it, his worst fears are realized. We have a Slithis on our hands. It could be worse. There is only one Slithis. There are multiple C.H.U.D. I can only imagine what the people of NYC would say if they heard the complaints about Slithis. They’d say: “One? Try having a shit load of C.H.U.D.! They’re not staying down there anymore!”
Slithis continues to kill and he looks really neat. He looks bad ass. I would not mess with Slithis. Let him do his business and go back to sea. In one of the neatest scenes of the film, Slithis attacks a station wagon and he just goes ape shit. I can only imagine what an asset he would be to the Jehovah’s Witnesses. He would not take no for an answer.
The plan to kill the monster is in place, but it’s not going to be easy. More blood must be shed and the sea runs red before they finally get the upper hand. The curious thing is that they attempt to release Slithis back into ocean at the end…well, they figure that he is dead, but still…I would have it stuffed and set it up in my living room. What a conversation piece!
Slithis has a great monster and a mediocre script, but it evens out in the end. I really liked it, but wasn’t blown away. If you like monster movies and angry monsters, you will like this. I recommend it.
