Sleepstalker (1995) – HORROR MOVIE REVIEW

Where do I begin with this one people? OK, I will start with the 1990s not being the best time for horror. Sure, there were a few good films to come out in that ten year span, but overall, they are not very good, but SLEEPSTALKER is even bad for a 1990’s movie and is one of the worst movies that I have ever seen in my entire life. It hasn’t taken the spot of the worst movie of all time, SLEDGEHAMMER, but it is surely in the top twenty. Wow, what a bad movie this was.

I walked past this title at the video store for quite a while, but it seemed like I ran out of horror movies to rent and decided to give this one a go. We begin with a family being slaughtered by a serial killer who goes by the name of “The Sandman,” played by Michael Harris. Now, as he kills his victims, he sings and drops sand in their eyes, which his later explained in the film, if you can make it to that point before taking the DVD out and smashing it.

Only the young son survives before the police break in and arrest the maniac killer. Now, there is some SHOCKER influence (which is ridiculous because that movie was horrible!) and you also get some CANDYMAN vibe (another bad movie). Now, you take SHOCKER and you mix it with CANDYMAN and then you take away anything good that either movie had, and you have SLEEPSTALKER. And to think that they compared this to A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. What the fuck is that about? I’d rather watch Wes Craven taking a dump than SLEEPSTALKER. You could call it AWAKECRAPPER. I say that because you don’t hear of many people shitting in their sleep.

Now, let’s move on. Much like SHOCKER, the mysterious serial killer is executed after a deal with the devil and can now come back and go after the kid that survived, Griffin (Jay Underwood). Now, if this movie moved any slower, it would stop, and I wish that it did, and when Sandman comes back to kill, he looks ridiculous. It looks like he is wearing a condom on his head and they add some very bad early CGI special effects just in case you weren’t vomiting yet.

Add in some gangbangers, a voodoo preacher, an absurd secret revealed at the end, and you have one of the worst horror movies of all time. SLEEPSTALKER is a nightmare from start to finish. It is torture. Rent this one at your own risk people.

Scared Stiff Rating: 0/10. Horrible…horrible…horrible…horrible….
