Seal Team Six (2012) – Osama Bin Laden Raid Movie Review

“Seal Team Six: The Raid on Osama Bin laden”, directed by John Stockwell and screenplay written by Kendall Lampkin, recounts the months and days before the raid that killed one of the worlds most evil men, Osama Bin Laden. The movie is BASED on facts, but has much speculation, as much of the information is still classified. That is important to remember. There is no way of knowing exactly what happened and the characters of the seal Team are indeed fictional in this movie. It plays out as factual, but it is indeed drama.

The story follows several fictional members of Seal Team Six including Stunner (Cam Gigandet), Cherry (Anson Mount), Trench (Freddy Rodriquez), Sauce (Kenneth Miller), Mule (Xzibit) , D-Punch (Tait Fletcher), and the Lieutenant Commander (Robbert Knepper). They have been in Afghanistan training and capturing suspected terrorists when the mother of all assignments is dropped in their laps. Get inside Osama Bin Laden’s compound, find him and neutralize him. Several problems exist. Number one, the compound is loaded with women and children. Two, the compound may be rigged with explosives as a booby trap and lastly, it’s on Pakistan soil. Pakistan is a country that is helping us fight terrorism, but at the same time, we know they are covering for many terrorists, so the ramifications of an unannounced attack can be huge. What will happen? What if Osama isn’t in the compound?

Kathleen Robertson plays Vivian, a woman in the Pentagon, hell-bent on capturing or killing Bin Laden and she does not want to lose another opportunity like we did early on in the battle against terrorism, when we actually had Bin Laden at a check point and let him go.

The story has many of the known facts presented in it such as one of our stealth-choppers crashing inside the compound, but the rest of the attack is purely speculation, but exciting to watch none the less. Any one who feels the anger that 9-11 brought to the world will enjoy watching Seal Team Six, as we see the devil incarnate dispensed with, at the hands of one of the greatest military forces the world has known. The United States Navy Seals are one of the most intensely trained forces around, and they kick it in this made for TV movie. Remember…it is BASED on fact and never claims to be exactly what happened, so do not judge it in the light that the makers had all the facts. I recommend it as an entertaining fictional account of what happened that early morning in Pakistan, but do not use it as a resource for facts.

Very well shot and edited, perhaps even a bit of propaganda considering the fact that it really shines a great light on United States President Barack Obama, but that aside, it’s a very enjoyable movie.

Rating: 7.5/10 … “Bye Bye Bin Laden”…

Available on Blu-ray and DVD.
