A Geno McGahee Film.
Any writer that attempts to create a sequel to any movie franchise is taking a gamble. Either you risk upsetting those that adore the first and fail to gain any new followers or on the flip side, you please the core fans and gain many more. All the big movies have had mixed results with this, however I am focusing upon this movie…
The film follows two sets of characters, first being, father and son, Ben (Brent Northup) and Mitch (Eric Michaelian). Mitch having returned to his home town, he is a writer and befriends, Stacy (Lorrie Bacon) who helps out with his father.
The second set of characters, Sharon (Sharon Marr), Steph (Jesse Delta Ariel Waegelein-Hall), Dan (Matt Hebert), Randy (Brandon Macy) are out of towners, being a party of five led by Jake (Tom Hebert). They are day-trippers to the town and decide to go camping and drinking.
Camping in this town can only lead to one outcome right?
The town obviously, harbors obscure characters’, seeking answers and others hiding secrets – there is a legend consisting of demon scarecrows, and as the story progresses the body count mounts questions begin to be asked though fail to be answered by those in authority.
The climax, without giving too much away: Mitch, Stacy join Jake and his party within the woods for a night of drinking and dancing… Demon scarecrows obviously are seeking a harvest and soon they begin to fall prey.
Again the magic of this movie like the first, touches upon small town mentality and often out of towners, stereotyping small communities. A splendid soundtrack. There are family issues and dark secrets, in which seems to be the magic formula for most of Geno’s horror movies. I will look at both movies in-depth within the future…
A triumph return to the scarecrow franchise for Geno, and may he return again very soon… I hope.
