PARANORMAL ACTIVITY (2007) – Horror Movie Review

By Chris Summerfield

Have you ever been woken by loud noises? Heard creaking doors, bumps and bangs, ruling it out as nothing more than an over active imagination or just perhaps denying you had heard anything, but have you ever had that creeping doubt that perhaps you are not alone, therefore snuggling deeper in to your duvet hoping your over active imagination would settle down, perhaps the majority of us, this is what happens, however there are the occasional strange cases of possible supernatural happenings and in this movie, with deadly consequences…

Now meet, Micah (Micah Sloat) and Katie (Katie Featherston), two young American’s living in San Diego, there has been strange happenings within and around their house, so Micah, has invested in camera’s, setting them up in various locations of the house, hoping to catch the phenomena on camera, but would they be satisfied with what they may catch on tape? It does kind of make you ask, would you dare to film yourself or parts of your house during the night hours?

Dr Fredrichs (Mark Fredrichs), is the psychic and wishes to know a little about the two of them and it soon becomes apparent that Katie, has had ghostly experiences before especially when she was young, something about a shadowy figure that would appear at the end of her bed, a presences that has followed her around for most of her life.

Dr Fredrichs, deals with ghosts not demons, and feels he cannot deal with it and therefore advises them to not try and communicate with it has you would be inviting it in to your life, though reassures them he knows of somebody who would help…

As we all know this movie was made on a minimum budget and went on to hit the jackpot and you can understand why, using home cameras to record, therefore giving ghost hunting that little authenticity, also using the night hours when the main characters are sleeping, a time we all fear something to happen, creaking doors, bumps and lights turning on and off, doesn’t it just trigger fears of the night…

Love or hate this movie, you cannot help but admire the way it was made and crafted, using a few old ideas, such as curiosity getting the better of mankind and therefore Micah provoking the demon by bringing a Ouija Board in to the house and constantly filming there every move adding to the fear the demon is feeding upon…

So therefore what begins has a playful bit of fun for Micah, reduces to a terrifying journey for Katie and him with a tragic ending… Also in many ways the birth of many Paranormal movies and endless others since…

So be honest with me, did you watch this movie alone and did you watch it last thing at night?

Don’t you go having a disturbing night now…

The Beast of Bray Road (2005) – WEREWOLF HORROR MOVIE REVIEW

By Geno McGahee This movie is terrifying because it is “based on actual events.” If this is true, then there really are werewolves and they maul people to death with regularity. OK, maybe they added a few things here and there to spice this up a little. The best thing […]
