ONE Championship returns to Bangkok, Thailand on Friday, 31 July with ONE: NO SURRENDER, featuring the world’s most exciting martial arts action. In the main event, reigning ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang “The Iron Man” Jitmuangnon will defend his World Title against the challenger, former ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion, “The Baby Shark” Petchdam Petchyindee Academy. In an exclusive ONE: NO SURRENDER Zoom Session led by President of ONE Championship Thailand, Jitinat Asdamongkol, here’s what they had to say ahead of this blockbuster showdown:
Jitinat Asdamongkol, President of ONE Championship Thailand, stated: “It’s a very unique time for all of us, especially for people in live sports, in the martial arts and Muay Thai communities. For us to have a comeback event, ONE: NO SURRENDER on the 31st of July, it’s not only a big step on ONE Championship’s part, on adapting and evolving with the Covid-19 situation, to ensure that we can still have events, and that we can still have content, but also to supply events for our athletes to satisfy the ecosystem. This also marks a very special moment as well, not only for ONE Championship, but for the Muay Thai industry. It’s a great honor for me and ONE Championship Thailand, and also all of our athletes, to take part in this.” Rodtang Jitmuangnon, ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion, stated: “First of all, I would like to say I’m very happy to come back and compete in ONE Championship again this 31st of July in my home country of Thailand. This is the third time I’m going to compete with Petchdam [Petchyindee Academy], and the first time I’m going to meet him in ONE Championship. I’m training hard everyday, so I hope this fight is going to be fun and exciting, and will entertain all of my fans around the world. In my opinion, Petchdam has improved a lot from the last time we met each other in the ring. He has become more aggressive with his punch combinations. Petchdam is a well-rounded athlete and a great striker, his left kick is very powerful. But they call me the ‘Iron Man’, so let’s see. We will bring our best into this fight, for all the fans watching. I’m a hundred percent ready for this fight, both physically and mentally.” Petchdam Petchyindee Academy, former ONE Flyweight Kickboxing World Champion, stated: “I am so glad that I can compete in ONE Championship again, after having had no events for a few months. I’m taking on Rodtang [Jitmuangnon] for the World Title, and I hope the fans will enjoy our fight. Thank you to the fans for all the support. I’m preparing very hard for this fight, because we know each other very well. It’s going to be fun. Rodtang is tougher now than the last time I faced him. He’s beaten all the top Muay Thai fighters, so I need to work hard and be ready. Rodtang is a great fighter, and he does a lot of good things in the ring. But I’m also going to do my best in this fight. I want to take the World Championship belt from him, that is my goal.” |
