Moon of the Wolf (1972) – HORROR MOVIE REVIEW

Made for TV films from the 1970s tended to be good and when I heard of a whodunit werewolf movie, made for TV, from 1972, I needed to see it. MOON OF THE WOLF takes place in Louisiana, and there are plenty of dead bodies being found, but the killer is an unknown. Soon the theory arises that a werewolf is responsible.

Sheriff Whitaker (David Janssen) is on the trail of the killer and there are a handful of suspects. He begins to have a relationship with the rich Louise Rodanthe (Barbara Rush), much to the disapproval of her brother Andrew (Bradford Dillman).

The story moves along at a snail’s pace and the identity of the killer is more than obvious. So, if you don’t have the whodunit to enjoy, what is left? The ‘fun factor’ is non-existent and the special effects are about as bad as they get. The werewolf looks like a guy with slicked back hair with some theatrical hair glued directly to his face. I know it’s 1972, but they should have done better than this.

This film is nearly impossible to make it through. I know that it’s gotten some decent reviews, but I don’t see anything positive about this. I would avoid this one. It was terrible.

Scared Stiff Rating: 1.5/10.
