Medusa Touch ROCKS SCARED STIFF: Heavy Metal Power Band Speaks About Their Music & More – Music News

Geno

Interview by Geno McGahee

Medusa Touch has been around since the glory days of heavy metal.  As things change, they stay the same and quality metal is timeless.    Being around for such a long time, and staying true to their music and style, Medusa Touch has earned quite a fan base.

Scared Stiff caught up with the band and they had the following to say about their music, experiences and future…

GM: Can you introduce yourself to the public?  How would you describe your band, your style, your message?

We are Medusa Touch a rock band from the glory days of 80’s heavy metal. Our style remains to day what it was back in the 80’s. Powerful, Riffing, Fist-Pumping, Sing-along good time music. I wouldn’t say we have a message other than “Come along to the gigs and join the party.”

GM: What got you into music?

I come from a very musical family. Lots of people played instruments and sang. Xmas & New Year was always a blast with lots of entertainment from family members.

GM: What musicians/bands were your inspirations?

My granddad was a side drummer in the Black Watch during the First World War. It was him who started me as a drummer. Then as our first band started to develop, there were always guitars and basses about so I used to pick the up and play them. I soon worked out I could play guitar fairly well. So, as this was back in the punk days, Steve Jones from the Sex Pistols was my first guitar hero. After I got into metal, Iron maiden duo (Adrian Smith and Dave Murray became my fav’s along with Michael Schenker). I did really admire Malmsteen as a player but his songs aren’t really my thing. To this day Joe Satriani is who I love listening to.

GM: Talk about your latest album.  What should the public expect?

13 track album of material all written in the 80’s recorded in 2012. All the songs are proper sing-along anthems I’d say. That’s the point of all our songs is to have great choruses you can sing along to. All with that 80’s vibe. Most of the songs are based on true events that happened. Except a couple.

GM: What has been the best experience you’ve had being in the business?

Getting this band together. We are all from the same era, long enough in the tooth not to have any ego issues and are having great fun doing this. That and getting the music released 30 years after the event. (Laughs) Thanks George.

GM: What has been the worst experience you’ve had?

Being let down. It happens. Some people just don’t the effort in and expect what they are doing is enough when it plainly isn’t. That gets me wound up. There is nothing worse when you do all that is expected of you and the whole process comes to a halt because someone can’t be arsed. AAAAArrgghhh.

GM: With the changing mediums in the distribution of music, how difficult is it to make a living in the business?

Almost impossible at the moment I’d say. Back in the 80’s you didn’t have to be a superstar to be comfortable, but now, no chance; unless you are hugely successful.  Honestly, bands who play at weddings are corporate gig’s do better than touring bands. But it’s not all about the money is it. Hence why there are so many great bands at the moment doing their thing and I salute you all.

GM: Any final thoughts?

I need a beer. (Laughs)
