Manny Thompson, 8-0, 5 KO’s, had a war on his hands with the tough and gritty, Leroy Jones, 3-5, 2 KO’s, but was able to take a unanimous decision win via scores 59-54 (twice) and 57-55.
In the first round, Thompson took control and was having an easy time until a left hook sent him crashing to the canvas. In the second round, there would be an uncalled double knockdown. The third round would have a lot of grappling and brawling, but a low blow would lead to a one point deduction from Jones. The last half of the fight would see Thompson finding his second wind and just having more left in the tank. He won the fight down the stretch.
The fight seemed much closer than 59-54, but the right guy won the fight. He just did more in the end.
