Mamie Gummer, Madeline Brewer, Violet McGraw and Brian Cox have joined the cast of Separation, directed by William Brent Bell and written by Nick Amadeus and Joshua Braun. As previously announced, Rupert Friend stars in the film, produced by Bell together with Yale Productions’ Jordan Yale Levine, Jordan Beckerman, Russ Posternak and Jesse Korman, and RainMaker’s Clay Pecorin and Russell Geyser. Executive producers are Seth Posternak and Dennis Rice. Yale Productions’ Jon Keeyes serves as a Co-Producer.
Equally inspired by iconic family drama Kramer vs Kramer and contemporary supernatural thrillers like The Sixth Sense and Mama, SEPARATION explores the horrifying consequences of divorce like no film before. Friend and Gummer star as Jeff and Maggie Vahn, a newly separated couple battling for custody of their 7-year-old daughter Jenny (played by Violet McGraw). Brewer portrays the couple’s longtime nanny Samantha Nally, with Cox playing Maggie’s overbearing father Paul Rivers.
Gummer, whose recent film credits include Jonathan Demme’s RICKI AND THE FLASH and Carol Morley’s upcoming OUT OF BLUE, will next be seen in season three of HBO’s True Detective. She is represented by CAA and Untitled Entertainment.
Madeline Brewer is well known for her portrayals of “Janine” in Hulu’s Golden Globe-winning and Emmy Award-nominated series The Handmaid’s Tale and “Tricia” in Netflix’s Emmy Award-nominated Orange is the New Black. She’s also appeared in Black Mirror and as well as Netflix’ upcoming Cam and Rupert Wyatt’s Captive State. Brewer is repped by CAA, Glenn Rigberg at Inphenate and attorney Joe Dapello.
Violet McGraw currently stars as Young Nell in Netflix’s acclaimed new horror series The Haunting of Hill House. McGraw previously appeared in Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One and Netlflix series Love. McGraw is repped by Coast To Coast Talent Group, Wild Briar Talent and Schreck Rose.
Emmy Award-winner Brian Cox currently stars as Logan Roy in HBO’s acclaimed series Succession and is especially well known for his iconic portrayal of Hannibal Lecktor in Michael Mann’s Manhunter as well as his performances in Spike Jonze’s Adaptation, David Fincher’s Zodiac and Wes Anderson’s Rushmore. Cox is repped by Paradigm and Insight.
One of today’s most accomplished, in-demand genre filmmakers, William Brent Bell is most known for his smash hit horror films The Boy, which was released by STX and grossed $65M at the worldwide box office and The Devil Inside, released by Paramount with worldwide box office exceeding $100M. Bell is repped by ICM Partners.
Production is underway in New York. Additional casting and plot details will be announced at a later date.
