In a middleweight showdown, Liam Smith, 29-2, 16 KO’s, used his superior boxing skills to dominate the late sub, Roberto Garcia, 42-5, 25 KO’s, leading to a unanimous ten round decision by scores of 99-91 (twice) and 98-92.
Garcia tried to press early, but he could not land his shots. Smith was able to use his left hook to the body and head to catch Garcia coming in. The consistent body work slowed down Garcia, taking away any chance for him to score the knockout upset win.
There were times when Smith had his opponent on the verge of a stoppage win, but let him off the hook and just stayed the course, consistently beating him down the stretch of the fight. A great performance by the former champion and the possible end of the road for Garcia.
