A new WBC flyweight champion was crowned as Julio Cesar Martinez, 16-0, 12 KO’s, walked through some early fire to beat down and stop Cristofer Rosales, 29-5, 20 KO’s, to stop him in round nine from a barrage.
Martinez stalked Rosales but got hit with some wicked right hands in round two, but the rest of the fight was a one-sided beating, mixing body shots with head shots, and going from orthodox to southpaw to get his punches in. Every round was another beating with the fight being drained from Rosales along with the power.
In the seventh round, Rosales was nearly stopped and badly beaten. He would give what he had left in round eight and would be overwhelmed in round nine, prompting the referee to save the brave Rosales from any further punishment. It was a great fight with both combatants showing all the heart in the world. It’s what boxing is all about.
