Super flyweight, Joshua Franco, 16-1-2, 8 KO’s, proved that skill beats will with the ninth round stoppage of the game but overmatched, Jose Alejandro Burgos, 17-3, 14 KO’s. From the opening bell, Franco was finding the mark much more and landing the more telling shots. The shot of the night was the check left hook that he landed with regularity.
Burgos fought gamely and kept looking for a way to get in and land something that would change the tide, but it wasn’t to be. In the ninth round, a tremendous check left hook hurt Burgos badly. A succession of follow up punches convinced the referee to call the fight. It was a great performance by Franco.
