Josh Kelly, 9-0-1, 6 KO’s, did not live up to the hype as he struggled and was unable to get any sustained offense going against the more consistent Ray Robinson, 24-3-2, 12 KO’s. Initially, the movement and pot-shotting of Kelly was eking out the rounds, but Robinson became more aggressive and began attacking the body of Kelly and trapping him in corners. Robinson won most of the middle rounds and Kelly came on at the very end to save his undefeated record and get the draw.
The judges scored it 96-95, Kelly and 95-95 (twice). It was a fair decision in an ugly fight.
