On March 23rd, HERO DOG: THE JOURNEY HOME will be released on Digital, On Demand and DVD from Lionsgate. The film is a great family film with Natasha Henstridge of SPECIES fame. I kept wondering where I knew her from and then it hit me. She was the star of that sci-fi alien series that was a pretty big hit franchise. She is back now in a family-friendly role and shows her versatility.
Chinook, an Alaskan Malamute, is the center of this adventure film and you can’t go wrong with a dog, especially in a family film. Susan (Henstridge) and the family are off on an adventure in the Canadian wilderness and there are plenty of thrilling moments as they plan a rescue.
Royce (Steve Byers), blind and stranded, must rely on his family to rescue him and Chinook is there to be his seeing eye dog. The film does a very good job balancing the feel good moments and the moments of despair. It is shot very well and the cast does a great job all around. I was happy to see Henstridge back and to see her do so well in such a different role than I’m accustomed to seeing her in.
I recommend HERO DOG: THE JOURNEY HOME. It is a film for the entire family and what kids don’t like dogs? There’s a little bit of everything here and I watched it with my entire family and it went over very well. It definitely worth checking out if you have a family movie night.
