Gervonta Davis, 23-0, 22 KO’s, captured the vacant WBA lightweight championship with a twelfth round knockout over Yuriokis Gamboa, 30-3, 18 KO’s, in a dominant performance.

Gamboa is just shot. He could not pull the trigger and adding to his troubles was an issue with his shoe. In the second round, Gamboa was dropped and his shoe apparently tore somewhere and made it difficult for him to walk and maneuver.

There was nothing that Gamboa could do to become effective in the fight.  He had nothing left with his only remaining attribute being his heart.  He would hit the floor in round 8 and knocked down for the final time in the 12th round.

Gervonta Davis was fortunate to have such a spent force in front of him tonight considering how tired he got late in the fight.  Davis came in heavy for this fight and has had issues with training.  He has all the potential in the world but his preparation is always the wildcard.
