(Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of the Blu-ray I reviewed in this blog post. The opinions I share are my own.)
It’s Christmas shopping time and I am compiling my yearly gift guide and one of the best gift ideas has to be the complete collection of the Game of Thrones on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will be releasing this set on November 3rd with all 73 episodes and 15 hours of bonus content with all eight seasons.
GAME OF THRONES debuted on HBO in 2011 and would run through 2019, and would set the standard for fantasy series. The show would win 59 Primetime Emmy Awards along with various other distinctions. During the run, it was one of the most popular shows ever to be produced and became a topic of conversation amongst fans, which turned out to be just about everyone. The show went viral.
The show is set on the continent of Essos. What makes the show standout are the storylines and how they weave together and how others crossover. The writing and character development are what make this addictive, but the special effects and unbelievable visuals keep you hooked.
The show is much like LORD OF THE RINGS with kings and queens and dragons. It’s heroes and constant conflict in a beautiful fantasy world. Watching the dragon destroy things is always fun and it adds that level of excitement that’s icing on the cake.
The show features a no holds barred approach where artistic freedom is realized. The show has been the focus of many conversations for the violence and adult situations that made the show even more popular. This is a show for adults that doesn’t pull the punches and pushes the female characters to the forefront and showing that they can be handy with a blade just as much as the men in the series.
GAME OF THRONES is an exploration into humanity, showing how power corrupts, how abuse can dictate life choices and how assumptions are never good. HBO was always known for the clever writing and quality shows and this is probably the best example of this. The fact that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released it in 4K with all sorts of bonus material is the best Christmas gift to give this year. This is the sort of set you want to own when you’re at home, it’s snowing out, you’ve got nowhere to go and you are ready to binge. I cannot recommend this enough!
