Floyd Mayweather JR VS Aaron Chalmers PPV: This Weekend’s Forgotten Fight & Rightfully So – Boxing News

At one time, Floyd Mayweather, JR., 50-0, 27 KO’s, had no issues selling a pay per view, but those days are long behind us now.  With huge financial successes in fights with Manny Pacquiao, Conor McGregor, Oscar De La Hoya and Marcos Maidana, Mayweather was a huge draw and did big business.  Now, he can’t give a fight away and it’s obvious why.  He’s facing opponents that have no hope in exhibitions.  There is no drama.

Floyd is taking on Bellator MMA fighter, Aaron Chalmers, 5-2, this Saturday.  When Mayweather took on McGregor, it was very interesting because McGregor was an elite MMA guy with striking knockout power.  Even though, as a boxing fan, there wasn’t much doubt in my mind as to who would win, but there was potential for McGregor to pull it off if he could land.  Chalmers doesn’t have that longshot path to victory.  He won’t win.

At the press conference for this fight, you can see how disinterested Floyd is and how there is no energy in the room.  The tickets aren’t selling.  This fight is a forgotten fight in the shadow of the Jake Paul – Tommy Fury PPV.

Mayweather JR has noted that he was robbing banks with these exhibitions because they were so easy and the fans have caught on.  The only way that Floyd can draw fans back is if he steps away from exhibitions and steps back into the prize ring against a fighter that has a chance to beat him but that’s not going to happen.  He will continue to take on YouTube stars and fighters from other sports until he banks enough money.

Anyone planning on renting this one will just be renting to watch a former great champion with gloves back on his hands, but there isn’t any doubt or drama in this.  I’ll pass.
