On February 22nd, Tyson Fury, 30-0-1, 21 KO’s, reclaimed his spot as the top big man in boxing by stopping Deontay Wilder, 42-1-1, 41 KO’s. It was a rematch from a disputed draw that many thought Fury had won, but there was no question as to who won this one with Wilder’s corner throwing in the towel in round seven.
After the fight, Wilder could not accept defeat, initially pointing to his heavy uniform he wore to the ring as the reason why he lost, but he has found two new reasons. The first thing that he’s pointed to is glove tampering on part of Fury. He contends that Fury might have put something in the glove to hurt him and there’s also been mention of removed padding. Wilder hasn’t forgiven his corner either, even though they saved him.
Wilder is such a good addition to the heavyweight division and probably the biggest puncher of all time, but he’s haunted by his only defeat. Due to the pandemic, the third fight between these two is postponed indefinitely it seems. So, Fury has moved on to other things and Wilder cannot let it go.
There will be some unlucky soul that they put in front of Wilder in his return fight. I would not want to be that guy. He is going to be on a kill mission and he will only see Fury when he faces whoever they pick to be the lamb led to slaughter. Fury will move on, win his next fight, I’m sure, and then go into a huge fight with Anthony Joshua.
It’s safe to say that Fury did not cheat. He came in extremely heavy and used his weight to bully Wilder around the ring. Fury is the master strategist and was not going to lose that night. He might not ever lose considering how good he is and his current mindset.
