WBC heavyweight kingpin, Deontay Wilder 42-0-1, 41 KO’s, struggled with the technical ability of the challenger Luis Ortiz, 31-2, 26 KO’s, losing the majority of the early rounds, and seeming to be in some trouble as the second half of the fight began, but a thunderous right hand at the end of the seventh round would put down Ortiz down for the full 10 count.

Ortiz fought such a great fight, sweeping the first five rounds and keeping his defense high and landing some good shots along the way.   Wilder was getting trapped on the ropes and there were moments of discomfort along the way.  As Wilder has said in the past, it only takes on, and that right hand is so tremendous that any fighter that is in the ring with him will have to fight a perfect fight to take that WBC belt.

The names coming up now are Tyson Fury and the winner of Andy Ruiz, JR., and Anthony Joshua in December.
