The WBC heavyweight king, Deontay Wilder, 41-0-1, 40 KO’s, became undisputed champ in a way last night when the man who many recognized as the true champion, Anthony Joshua, lost all his titles to the unheralded challenger, Andy Ruiz, JR. Very few would probably consider Ruiz JR the best in the division now and that has shifted the focus to Wilder, the man that has been crushing every opponent that he’s faced with the exception of Tyson Fury.
After Joshua quit in the seventh round, Wilder got onto twitter and had some interesting comments that showed his frustration with Joshua never facing him. Joshua losing was a big financial loss for Wilder. A Wilder – Fury 2 bout or a Wilder – Ruiz JR bout will not generate the money that a fight with Joshua would have. Now it’s all gone.
Wilder tweeted: The worst thing you can do in life is Fucking Quit!!
In another tweet, he noted: He wasn’t a true champion. His whole career was consisted of lies, contradictions and gifts. Facts and now we know who was running from who!!!! #TilThisDay
I did find it interesting that Joshua said that he wished the knockout loss was to Wilder and not Ruiz JR. It’s pretty safe to say that it would have been the result had the two fought with the questionable chin of Joshua and the incredible power of Wilder. Now the division moves forward in a different way than many expected. Every once in a while a guy like Ruiz JR throws a wrench in the works.
