I sincerely miss the days of shot on video horror from the 80s and 90s. Thankfully, I have tons of them in my collection and I have opted to dust off a release that I picked up at Media Play all those years ago with a SOV film called “DEMONSOUL” from 1995.
Selena (Elleen Daly) is a vampire that has a couple of worshippers in cloaks and one dude dragging behind her by chain. She cuts him while grinding on him topless and the actor in that role probably was happy to have gotten the part. Erica (Kerry Norton) wakes up as Selena looks at her from the dream and is confused by the whole experience. This is something that feels very real but she cannot explain it.
Dr. Butcher (Daniel Jordan) wants to put her under hypnosis to find out what’s going on and he’s a big pervert. He puts her under and gropes her and then commands her to not to remember any of it. I bet this happens a lot with hypnotists. I sometimes want to go under cover but I don’t want to be groped while I’m under by some perverted dude. I guess if I don’t remember it, it’ll be OK.
A stronger connection grows between Selena and Erica and they soon both show up and go after Dr. Butcher. Now Butcher has to attractive near naked women in his office and he does nothing. He is all grope and no bite. Erica does bite him with vampire fangs. He survives but he is very rattled by the whole situation. He confides in another psychologist, Kurtz (Erich Redman), but as he explores, he gets a visit by the two dudes in cloaks. What a raw deal. Butcher gets the two hot chicks and Kurtz gets the two dudes in cloaks.
Dr. Butcher is a sexual predator and scumbag, but there needed to be more. So, he agrees with Erica, after she transformed into full vampire, to feed her some blood. He invites some poor woman over and holds her so Erica can kill her and suck her blood. Dr. Butcher lives up to his name. What a dickhead.
Erica starts showing her other powers, including smoking Dr. Butcher out, and bringing him to Selena’s lair. A new member of the cloak worshipper gang is added as Kurtz joins the team and that has to be way better than being a psychologist. I’d rather wear a robe and hang around naked women all day than listen to the bullshit from people that want to bitch. Good for you Kurtz and Kurtz drags away his groping pervert friend and he definitely needed to get his and they whip him as he screams “bitch.” He was put into a world of “pain, torture and pleasure,” according to Selena. At least there’s pleasure.
DEMONSOUL is a great 1995 SOV horror film. Anyone that is suffering through the wave of gimmicky no budget horror shit that you see all over TUBI nowadays, should really appreciate what this film has to offer. It’s slow at times, but I really enjoyed it with Elleen Daly, Kerry Norton and Daniel Jordan giving their all for this film. The acting is quite good across the board and despite the obvious budget limitations, they did a good job.
I highly recommend DEMONSOUL for anyone with an appreciation of shot on video films of the time. It was just a better time for film and you can see the love that those involved had for this film. I also recommend this for anyone suffering through modern no budget horror. Watch this. They knew how to do it back then.
