Super middleweight David Benavidez, 21-0, 18 KO’s, scored a second round stoppage over J’Leon Love, 24-3-1, 13 KO’s. In the opening round, Love came in aggressively but paid a price, eating the combination of the bigger Benavidez. A left hook would rattle Love at the end of round one and set the tone for round two.
In round two, Benavidez began landing with more regularity, but was also missing a lot in the corner as Love dodged and ducked. A right hand against the ropes would prompt the referee to stop the fight, even though it seemed like a very quick stoppage. Love could have absolutely continued, but he was definitely losing very badly.
Benavidez can now look ahead to some big fights in a stacked division.
