Lionsgate has just released DARK WEB: CICADA 3301 On Demand, Blu-ray and DVD and it’s just as advertised. The dark web has been a focus of many with its seedy nature, featuring illegal activities and the hidden side of humanity. This film focuses on that and pushes it in this suspenseful thriller that has some pretty interesting twists and turns.
The film focuses on consequence and just how far tracking can do. Delving into the dark web ignites the fire in this film and it’s off and running. The pace is pretty good and despite it’s relatively long run time of 105 minutes, it doesn’t drag. The first half sets up the story and the second half brings it home.
Jack Kesy plays Connor, a hacker that goes up against the NSA and tries to decode the puzzles that seem unbreakable. Kesy plays the role incredibly well, but it’s the only character that is really developed. Connor is the focus and the threat that he is constantly dealing with puts this feeling on the viewer of constant danger.
DARK WEB: CICADA 3301 is a mixed bag, featuring good performances and an interesting story. It misses the mark here and there and it probably would have been better had it been shaved just a little, but I really enjoyed it. I recommend it!
