Danny Garcia, 36-2, 21 KO’s, had no issues controlling Ivan Redkach, 23-5-1, 18 KO’s, over the course of 12 rounds, but didn’t shine enough to make the fans want to see him again. The unanimous decision was a no brainer, but when trying to attract names like Manny Pacquiao, Garcia should have made a statement in this fight with a very limited fighter.
From the opening bell, Garcia used his superior skill and timing to hit and not be hit, with every round being like the last, leading to a unanimous decision by scores of 118-110 and 117-111 (twice). It wasn’t the performance that he needed to bring demand for a big PPV fight.
This was a big mismatch and an ugly fight and it was an ugly night for Showtime. This is not a good night for boxing or for Garcia. Credit to those that were able to stay awake for this entire card.
