Hey kids, Dash Jordan here. It’s definitely been awhile, sorry for my temporary absence. I’ve just come off of a bad cold, I’ve been stuck in my house for the past few days due to this god-awful snowstorm we just had, not to mention the somewhat endless stream of dead icons we’ve been getting. I was one sad, sick puppy. It was just a bad couple of days for the Dash-man. So once again, I do apologize for my sudden disappearance. What I will not apologize for is some of the things I may say or do on the internet. You can call me a critic, a reviewer, a journalist or what have you. But, one thing I am not, is a troll. Trolls are obnoxious, self-righteous, insecure, little cowards(probably still virgins)who live to make everyone else mad, depressed or miserable, but who don’t have the testicular fortitude to talk the talk to a real-live person with their mouths. Could someone please just come and stab one of them to death already?
Oh! Thanks, Arya Stark! Something tells me this wasn’t your first time dealing with internet bullies, was it?
Kids…I ALWAYS keep my promises. Allow me to introduce to you to , Ms. Maisie Williams.
‘Cyberbully’ is a 2015 made-for-television movie from the UK. The movie stars Maisie Williams as a teenager named Casey, who experiences a stream of verbal, mental and emotional abuse from an unknown hacker. I’m also going to end the confusion right here and now. There was, in fact, another telefilm that was made just four years prior to this one that was also called ‘Cyberbully’; however, the two films are no not connected in any other way and it’s just a coincidence that they share the same title. Besides, I actually find this one to be better-acted and better-written. Now, this movie is basically a thriller, so I won’t spoil it for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.
But it’s fun! Alright, fine. I’ll try not to. So, how’s the acting? Well, let’s ask Maisie herself. Hey Maisie, is your acting still awesome?
Obviously, most people will recognize Maisie Williams for her role as Arya Stark from HBO’s ‘Game Of Thrones’. Every fan has their favorite or most hated characters from the show and Arya Stark is actually my favorite. So much so that I was really curious to see if she would be just as good in anything else. I have to say, that it was this film that turned Maisie Williams from that girl who played one of my favorite TV characters to one of my absolute favorite new actors. Aside from a few minor roles in this movie, this is actually Maisie Williams being filmed in a room, by herself. Not to go into too many details, but every bit of emotion this woman shows is 100% real. Whereas most child stars eventually become full of themselves or who end up crashing and burning, Maisie Williams is one of the few exceptions. She’s a naturally-talented young actress with a very bright future and who doesn’t let her newfound fame go to her head…like some people.
Yeah, no…no we don’t. Anyways, as I’ve mentioned before, this film is a thriller so I’ll try not to spoil anything. However, I must warn some of my viewers that ‘Cyberbully’ stays true to its namesake. Cyberbullying is a very sensitive subject and is no different from other criminal acts. I’ll admit, it sounds a little hypocritical from a critic who pokes fun at certain celebrities, filmmakers and politicians on a regular basis; all for the sake of comedy. But, if I could break character for a few seconds…everything I do is all without any malicious intent. As someone who was a frequent victim of bullying as a kid, it does hurt when I hear some of these stories of people who become victims…some of which, who look towards “alternative” means of coping. These are real-life tragedies that can and do happen, some of these things will be featured in this movie. While I may recommend this movie to some people, I do not recommend it to any sensitive viewers. …what? Anyway, I do recommend ‘Cyberbully’. It’s a well-written thriller based on a very real subject matter, and backed by an amazing and relatable performance by Maisie Williams. Just don’t be surprised when the story and performances get little too relatable. Like, to the point where it becomes very shocking and depressing for some viewers. You have been warned. Otherwise, check this movie out if you can find it. Hope you’ve all enjoyed my review, sorry again that it’s been awhile but it’s so good to be back. You know what? I’m feeling generous…next time, it’s Request Time!
