Conor McGregor, 21-4, coming back to the sport of mixed martial arts went into a tremendously difficult fight against the 155 pound champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov, 27-0. McGregor came out and tried to force the fight with his striking but the ground game was the difference. McGregor could not stay on his feet, where he is most effective and was kept on the ground until a rear naked choke forced him to tap in the third round. McGregor should have probably taken some tune up fights considering his time off of the game and the fact that he changed his training to go into a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather, JR., last year.
When the fight concluded, Khabib jumped over the cage to battle some people in the audience while McGregor was cheap-shotted in the ring with a right cross. There was nothing but bad blood in this fight and even when McGregor tapped out, Khabib spat on him.
McGregor will probably return to the octagon, but his star power might have gone down a few notches.
