Cody Rhodes comes out and takes the microphone to announce the open challenge opponent for his TNT title match. Cody talks about how the Elite didn’t bail him out when Hager attacked him last week. Perhaps a heel turn is in order.
Arn Anderson grabs the mic and he is such a great speaker. Anderson has hand-picked the opponent and has chosen former NWA Champion, Ricky Starks. Anderson noted that Jack Hager will not be a match for his champion any time soon and Hager is not happy about that.
Cody is much bigger than his challenger and he’s making the size count. Starks isn’t doing much in return. The NWA title doesn’t hold much credibility anymore. That might have something to do with Jim Cornette’s racial slurs.
Stark finally gets some offense going. Hager is watching on from the back, not happy at Arn Anderson’s decision to not have Cody face him in the ring. Cody isn’t having much trouble with the challenger this week. He’s doing his best to push Starks, but there’s not much there.
Cody lands the Crossroads for the 1-2-3 and successfully defended his TNT title. This has been the least dramatic defense thus far, but I like the idea of Anderson putting in soft opponents so his guy can keep the title, ROCKY III style.
