The Hanged Man
The Hanged Man shows one held still by a skewed perspective and therefore cannot see clearly. In a traditional deck, a man is depicted hanging upside down. Everything before him therefore is out of balance and reversed. As long as he does not move, he will continue to have trouble seeing, understanding and getting beyond what is before him. It is this stubborn suspension that keeps him trapped.
The reasons for the negative thought patterns are varied. Sometimes nature, sometimes nurture and most often a mix, this way of thinking has made pleasant times hard and hard times harder. The good news is that recently you have found not only a balance, but a new way of life. You have found a way to mostly break free from the self-doubts and undeserved criticisms that others have put upon you.
Awakened from a long sleep, you now are wide awake. You have allowed yourself to come down from that self-imposed hanged man position and see things far clearer than before. The defense mechanisms that kept you safe, but sad, hurt but closed off and angry but secure are no longer needed. Whether by route of a new person, new hobby, new interest or new love, a sensory perceptual evolution has taken place, and it is so well-deserved. Everything that was once closed off is now open. Your confidence has been restored and you have newfound and well-placed faith in your intuition, intellect and instincts.
The trick is to keep on this path. There are going to be days when insecurity sets in and the branch on that tree looks very appealing. Old habits are hard to break and old habits tied to past trauma are the worst. Surprisingly, I’m not going to tell you to stay away from the tree. It’s okay to get back in the hanged man’s position from time-to-time, just leave yourself a ladder to get back down. Everyone has bad days and you have more reason than most to feel bleak sometimes. Just know that whatever helped you find this restoration of life is still with you, even when everything else seems backwards and wrong.
You have come into your own and are the person you’ve always wanted to be, the person that was always inside. Don’t think a bad day or the interference of negative thoughts takes any of that away. Your ability to feel that, express it and then recover is what makes you different, special and the perseverant fighter that everyone respects and admires.
Enjoy the good times as they are a plenty and will be for many many days to come. Feel the bad times as they make the good times so much sweeter, and if on those bad days you find yourself looking at a world upside down and confused, know that things will get better. As soon as you can untie the knots holding yourself still and walk down that ladder, you will ALWAYS find solace, security and love waiting for you.
When the darkness hits, ride it out as you always do and just know the bad trips are getting fewer and further between while the good is showering you with love, nurturing care and a real vision of attainable happiness.
