I had the opportunity to watch a screener version of an independent film called “Chainsaw Maidens From Hell”. The film is written and directed by the co-host of the web-radio program “Citywide Blackout” Matthew Martino. Chainsaw Maidens from Hell is a playful Horror/Comedy that doesn’t take itself too seriously. The movie stars Allen, McRae, Chelsey Cayer, Lloyd Kaufman, Sean Kennedy, Sarah French and Kane Hodder. Here is the plot:

Being the big man on campus is easy for Blake. He’s captain of the football team and is destined for a career in the pro leagues – that is if he passes his chemistry class. But destiny has a way of tackling the toughest of players when demons invade his campus and begin to enslave the student body. A divine angel descends to give Blake an invincible suit of super football pads and send him out to battle the forces of evil. Unfortunately, the suit is missing one vital piece – the jock strap. In order to get it back, Blake must descend into the underworld and face the guardians of doom known as The Chainsaw Maidens from Hell. And he’s got to do all this while studying for a chemistry quiz.

The movie is fun and a somewhat cheesy. Green screen was used for much of it. It reminds me a bit of the old TV show “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” with the way it was shot and acted. I really enjoyed it. Most of the characters are over the top and well developed. They make it fun to watch. Some of the monologs are a bit long but I can forgive that because the flick is still entertaining.

The story has two essential things in it that add some depth to this movie. It has Blake, our hero, on a quest and it has a love story or two sprinkled in. I enjoyed the bad jokes too, even though some of them are missed in the delivery, whether intentional or not I’m not sure.

Overall a fun Horror/Comedy that is certainly worth the watch. A good one to make part of your annual Halloween movie watching habit. “Chainsaw Maidens From Hell” is funny, cheesy, colorful and just a humorous movie watching experience. Keep your eyes on their Facebook page to learn when and where you can get this movie to enjoy for yourself. The link is posted below.
