In a major upset, super middleweight, Carlos Gongora, 19-0, 14 KO’s, exposed Ali Akhmedov, 16-1, 12 KO’s, getting the brutal knockout in the final round of a war.
In the opening rounds, Akhmedov put the pressure on and hurt Gongora in round two, but he survived. The midway of the bout was the changing point for the momentum. Gongora found the left uppercut, causing a cut underneath the right eye. Gongora began hunting and walking down Akhmedov.
In the final round, with the fight up in the air, Akhmedov came after Gongora and ran into an uppercut that planted him on the canvas. He got up, but he was done. Gongora pounced and landed another uppercut and put him down for the 10 count to win the bout in the final round in a tremendous fight and victory for the 8-1 underdog.
