Canelo Alvarez, 51-1-2, 35 KO’s, had no issues in beating down and knocking out defending the WBA Regular super middleweight champion, Rocky Fielding, 27-2, 15 KO’s. In the first round, Canelo went right after the taller and bigger man and Fielding made it easy on him, fighting on the inside. Alvarez dropped Fielding with a left hook in the first round and his arms and body were beaten red before the round was over. There was nothing he could do to keep Canelo off and didn’t have the style to outbox him.
In the second round, Canelo dropped Fielding again, but he got up and tried to fight him off. It just wasn’t there. Fielding didn’t have the power in his shots to earn the respect of the challenger. In the third, Canelo would open up even more, knocking Fielding down with a right hand to the head and then again with a left hook to the body, capturing the “regular” WBA super middleweight title in the process. Canelo could stay in the division but will most likely go back down to the middleweight division.
Canelo was impressive but Fielding was not in his league. This turned out to be a huge mismatch as many predicted before the opening bell even rang.
