Bad Ass (2012) – Action Movie Review

Vietnam Tom was introduced to America through a Youtube video a couple years ago.  He has affectionately been called Beard Man.  Essentially, he was on the bus minding his own business when a twenty-something ghetto punk and his equally ignorant friends began harassing this 67 year old homeless fellow.

The brawl broke out on the Oakland transit.  At first the idiot claimed to take something the wrong way that Beard Man had said.  Tom advises he’s not a racist.  When the man proceeds to act like a violent dog, Tom gets up and goes to the front of the bus to avoid conflict.  This douchebag follows him to the front of the bus and strikes him.

In the video you can hear woman taking the video laughing it up.  What a waste-of-space!  Well, Vietnam Tom gets to his feet and pummels the jerk.  Go Tom!  Well, of course the girl yells that they can sue.  Of course, she’s an idiot as the punk started the fight.  Tom acted in self-defense.

Now, a short-time after, a local radio station had the jerk who started the fight on.  Of course, on the radio show he can suddenly speak in an articulate fashion and has lost the ghetto personality that put him in trouble to begin with.  He claimed that Tom was racist **lies** that he respected the elderly **lies** and that he respected Veterans **lies.**  He “apologized” in the most half-assed way he could and of course then said that he wouldn’t apologize for Tom’s racist remarks (of which there were NONE).   I wish more ghetto trash douchebags had a run in with Vietnam Tom.  Like I said before in the Tyler Perry article, I despise people who play the race card.  Watch old footage and pictures of Emmett Till and then claim someone is a racist who clearly isn’t!  I hate when people play the race card.  Human beings have died because of racist remarks.

Anyways, Bad Ass is loosely based on this incident.  Frank Vega (Danny Trejo) sits on a bus while a scumbag comes in and harasses an elderly man.  Rather, than have the jerk be an African American ghetto douche like in reality, the character was a white Neo-Nazi scumbag.  Now, I find this choice odd but it’s a work of “fiction” so more power to them.  So many people have complained about this but it’s really nonsense.

One cool thing about the movie is that Frank and his young neighbor talk freely about racism.  They have a banter going about Mexicans and African Americans which is not politically correct at all.  It was refreshing to see these two characters joke about their ethnicity all the while getting alone fine.

Vega beats the living hell out of them.  Later, his good friend is murdered and he beats the killers up to.  He beats everyone up.  Soon he finds out that his friend’s death connects to a deeper issue when he obtains a flash drive that shows plans to increase crime so that they can bring oil in.

Well, that doesn’t sit too well with Frank.  He hunts down those who killed his friend and those responsible for his death.  He also starts a romance with the neighbor next door.

As a send up to the actual incident, at the end of the movie one of the main characters utters “send an amber lamp” rather than ambulance.  Also, a character is named Amber Lamps.  This is because Michael (the jerk on the bus) asked for an ‘amber lamp” when he was injured.

Regardless, the movie is awesome!

Trejo has the goods to be an action film star.  He’s fantastic and has acting chops too.

Overall Rating: 8/10
