AEW (10/16) Dynamite: Chris Jericho Title Defense, Jon Moxley, Kenny Omega & More – Pro Wrestling Results & Review

By Geno McGahee

Here we go with another week of AEW Wednesday Night Dynamite and it once again answered the call of the wrestling fan that is sick and tired of the WWE’s way of “Sports Entertainment.”

The AEW title tournament was underway with SCU and the Best Friends when the Lucha Brothers, Fenix and Pentagon JR., attacked and put Christopher Daniels out of the match with a piledriver on the ramp.  Scorpio Sky would step in and the Best Friends now had opponents.

SCU via Pinfall THE BEST FRIENDS

In a great match that featured plenty of high-flying moves and changes in momentum, SCU would pick up the win, thanks in most part to Scorpio Sky, who wrestled in his street clothes.   One of the best parts of the match was when the Best Friends wanted to embrace and it was interrupted by the SCU.  The crowd booed loudly and erupted when the two finally got to hug it out.  A powerbomb-leg drop combo would lead to a pinfall victory and advance in the tournament for SCU.

SANTANA & ORTIZ via Pinfall JOHN SILVER & ALEX REYNOLDS

In a total squash match, the Inner Circle members, Santana and Ortiz easily destroyed the challenge of Silver and Reynolds.  The match was a quick and easy display of destruction and led to a video from Chris Jericho congratulating his team on the win and challenging the Young Bucks to a tag team scrap on 11/9 at the PPV.

RIHO via Pinfall Dr. BRITT BAKER (AEW Women’s Title)

Riho, all 98 pounds of her, is still one of the most fun wrestlers to watch.  She put on one hell of a match with Dr. Britt Baker, and I wasn’t really sure how this match was going to turn out.  Baker has been one of the top faces for AEW and it was hard to see her losing, but after a back and forth war, Baker applied her submission move, only to have it reversed into a pin and a loss.  Riho holds onto the title.

LUCHA BROS. via Pinfall JURASSIC EXPRESS

What a disappointment this match was.  I was expecting the tremendous Luchasaurous, but he was injured and we got the shitty Marko Stunt in his place.  I hate Marko Stunt.  He is complete shit.   I was happy that he was destroyed by the Lucha Bros, but he got too many spots during the match.  Does ANYONE really like this guy?  He reminds me of that small Von Erich brother that nobody could stand in the 80s, but far worse.  Lucha Brothers won with relative ease, but damn, I wish that Marko Stunt wasn’t involved.

KENNY OMEGA & HANGMAN PAGE Via Pinfall PAC & JON MOXLEY

Pac and John Moxley are just awesome and it’s nice to see these guys do so well in AEW.  This match was exactly what you’d expect.  Moxley is the Steve Austin of this federation and he does not play well with others.  Initially, Pac and Moxley worked together well, but when Moxley decided to break the rules, Pac was there to step in and stop him, only to be flipped off and DDT’d, leading to Page and Omega scoring the pinfall win, after hitting Pac with every finisher known to man.  Omega and Page needed the victory and it set up a match with Pac vs. Moxley next week.  You can’t beat that.

CHRIS JERICHO Via Submission DARBY ALLIN (AEW Heavyweight Title)

This match did exactly what it was meant to do.  It build Jericho as the champ and furthered the reputation and career of Allin, a great talent in the ring.   From the opening bell, Allin used his speed to get the edge, but the experience and dirty tactics by the champion began to make the difference.  Jericho took some duct tape and taped the challenger’s hands behind his back, but that didn’t stop Allin as he continued to do his high-flying moves with his hands behind his back.  He actually looked ready to win when Jack Hager came out and got some punches in to knock Allin silly and allowed the champion to lock in the Walls of Jericho for the win.

The Inner Circle came out with champagne to celebrate and further cemented their place in AEW as the top heel faction.

Overall, this was great with the exception of Marko Stunt.  Other than that, I really enjoyed this show and can’t wait for next week.
