On October 3rd, at 8 PM, on TCM (Turner Classic Movies), a documentary will air, featuring Stephen King, as he walks you through the world of horror, from classic to modern, giving his expert opinion.

The documentary is a great introduction to horror and a great overview for the horror fans. King talks about the vampires, slashers, zombies, demons and ghosts, and even gives some insight into his own experiences and disagreements with directors that have done adaptations of his books. I found it quite interesting to see that he didn’t particularly like THE SHINING.

The psychological approach of horror, the tactics used by the directors and writers to have an impact on the audience is discussed and you get a greater understanding as to why certain horror films have become classics.

A NIGHT AT THE MOVIES: THE HORRORS OF STEPHEN KING is a great overview of horror, with rare production photos from some of the classic films and some inside stories from King. It was really enjoyable as a horror filmmaker and horror fan to get this window into the world of Stephen King, and to see the evolution of horror over the years. I highly recommend it.

Rating: 8/10.
