There might not be a more unique release than the 2020 WORLD SERIES from Shout Factory and MLB, chronicling the first victory for the Los Angeles Dodgers since 1988. With the pandemic hitting the world, baseball, like all other sports, had to adjust. As I watched this Blu-ray, it brought the reality of our situation but also showed the perseverance of mankind and how we can adjust to still bring excitement and gameplay to the fans.
Vin Scully, known for his long term work on commentary for the Dodgers, does the narration for this. His ability to tell the story and bring the journey of the Dodgers to the viewers and to those that do not follow baseball. That is part of the charm of this release. You don’t necessarily have to be a fan of the sport to appreciate what you are watching. It is brought in a very specific way to appeal to all audiences and to not only just present a sports outing, but to tell a story and it’s a comeback story with redemption. I can’t think of a better time to tell it.
The set has tons of extras, including interviews with Mookie Betts and Corey Seager. The Blu-ray – DVD combo pack was released on the 8th of this month and is definitely worth a look. Those that are not fans of the Dodgers will find themselves rooting for them to win as they take on the Tampa Bay Rays and enjoy how they won the entire thing down the stretch. It was pretty inspiring.
Major League Baseball Presents THE 2020 WORLD SERIES is a mixture of history, story-telling, sports and a reflection of the pandemic that we all went through and how we adjusted. This is a strange time in history and it’s captured here. I recommend it.
