Lionsgate has just released RED SHOES AND THE SEVEN DWARFS, a new take on a classic fairy tale. This is Snow White, but with some variations that makes it stand out. It is now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital currently and brings a modern take with some decent animation and storytelling.
The Dwarfs all have personalities but they also are in need of salvation. They are all princes that have suffered from a terrible curse that has transformed them into ugly trolls. They meet up with Snow White and have to deal with her stepmother and all sorts of different situations. Snow White isn’t the beauty that the dwarfs meet. She stole some red shoes that turned into an absolute beauty but it’s not real.
As I watched the film, the more I thought about SHREK. The animation is similar and then the story isn’t that far away either. The Princess in SHREK turns from a beauty into an ogre while Snow White turns from a plump woman to a fit an attractive princess. You can see where this film is going. It is pushing that real beauty is on the inside and it’s a pretty good message to children. We need more love in this world.
There is an evolution in the dwarfs and with Snow White as well as they go through the journeys that they are on. Both find acceptance of themselves and each other.
RED SHOES AND THE SEVEN DWARFS is a very decent kid’s movie with a great message about acceptance and being who you are and being happy about it. I recommend it!
