The #5 rated WBO super featherweight, Lamont Roach, JR., 18-0-1, 7 KO’s, was matched relatively soft against the feather-fisted, Alberto Mercado, 15-2-1, 3 KO’s, winning an easy and boring 10 round unanimous decision by scores of 99-91, 98-92 and 97-93.
The very slow dance was dominated by Roach JR’s sharper and harder punching. Mercado slapped with his punches throughout and presented no threat. Despite his lack of threat, Roach JR was rather careful in his approach and didn’t engage as much as he probably should have. An easy win for Roach JR but a bad fight for the fans.
