The Looney Tunes Show (2010 to Present)

Once in a great while, I can watch a television show and say, “wow…they made this one for me!”  The first time I saw Dr. Heinz Doofernshmirtz in Disney’s Phineas and Ferb, the thought occurred to me.   Another example is Romper Room & Friends.  When I was a child and I saw Romper Room, I was hooked.  I remember my mother convinced me somehow I always missed Miss Molly say my name in her mirror.  Seriously though, my name is Melissa!  That name should have been said constantly…but I’m not bitter.

Growing up, Looney Tunes was always one of my faves.  I remember lounging around on a Saturday morning watching it for hours.  To this day, they crack me up!  Whenever I think about Bugs locking the mobsters in the stove and turning it on while convincing them he was doing them a favor – I burst out laughing.  The absurdity of the cartoons holds the test of time.

When I heard they were bringing them back, bad images of Space Jam and Back in Action had me cringing in fear.  I desperately wanted them to return ….but I wanted the sarcastic and fun group that I remember.

I held off watching for a while.  I couldn’t bring myself to see them destroyed again.  Finally, the hubby DVR’d a few episodes and I delved in.  They are hilarious!!  They are the same fun bunch I remember.  This time the episodes have a bit of continuity between them.

Bugs and Daffy (Jeff Bergman) live together and are best friends though they frequently argue.  Bugs (sometimes against his will) is in a relationship with the very neurotic and jealous Lola (Kristen Wiig).  Meanwhile, Daffy is dating the tough but sweet Tina Russo Duck (Jennifer Esposito).

Next door from Bugs and Daffy, lives the very angry, selfish and pushy Yosemite Sam (Maurice LaManche).   The desperate for love and friendship Porky Pig (Bob Bergen) is always taken advantage of by Daffy and in one hilarious episode is believed to be a murderer.

Whether Daffy is posing as his girlfriend because he wants to be a hairdresser or Bugs is adopting the Tasmanian Devil (Jim Cummings) as a dog, the show is hilarious.

Every character with the single exception of Witch Hazel (now Lezah) (Roz Ryan) is kept true to form.  Hazel (as I refuse to call her Lezah) has lost her pizazz and sadly is more of a caricature than a character.

I would love to see Pete Puma (John Kassir) used more frequently.  He is hilarious as the dumb guard who after being told a dozen times not to let the Tasmanian Devil escape does just that.

I look forward to them and can watch them over and over again.  I never get tired of Bugs growing offended as he is called an ugly woman.  It’s completely old school and defies the bunch of idiots who call the classics too violent for the young.  They understand it is a cartoon, it’s not real, and so if Foghorn Leghorn and Daffy get into a fist fight, it’s okay.  If Daffy uses Porky as a bowling ball to get a strike…it’s all good.

If you haven’t watched this and you’re a fan of the originals, please give this a shot, you will not be disappointed and you’ll surely be laughing out loud.

The Brute (1977) – Movie Review

Reviewed by Melissa Garza I’ve always been captivated by movies that display domestic violence.  Whether it be The Burning Bed, What’s Love Got to Do with It, Enough, or even Sleeping with the Enemy; I’m drawn to the screen. I think it’s the perseverance and strength of the women that […]
