The Big Fights We Want To See in 2021

Geno

Boxing has made the most of what it has been able to in 2020 and while we’ve still seen some great fights, after all Lomachenko v Lopez just last weekend proved quite the upset, we perhaps haven’t quite got the huge fights we were all expecting.

You get the impression therefore that there are going to be some monster bouts over the next 12 months, many of which could go down in history.

But what are the big fights we should all be looking forward to? And let’s just hope plenty of fans will sit ringside able to watch them…

Canelo Alvarez v Billy Joe Saunders

We’re desperately hoping to see a Super Middleweight unification as Canelo Alvarez looks set to take on Billy Joe Saunders in 2021. It’s been talked about for some time and is hugely anticipated.

Saunders has a fight on December 4 against Martin Murray which he must take care of first though, of which he’s a firm favourite at 1/25 with the bookmakers. Following that Alvarez will be likely.

Alvarez has never really fought someone with the quality of the British southpaw, but despite that many are still considering him favourite. The WBO champions will be a man to be reckoned with and despite plenty of controversy outside the ring, he’s one of the best in the division and could cause an upset.

Tyson Fury v Anthony Joshua

It’s the fight everyone wants to see and none more than the bookies. They’re already offering odds on the fight, despite no set date. And you won’t find the bookies help you choose either, with most having them fairly evenly poised.

Fury is just shading it currently, although some bookies are offering as high as 4/7, while Joshua is currently available to back at 11/8.

Most pundits and experts are split too, with Fury proving time and time again what a fantastic fighter he is. Tactically, you’d expect him to be well on top, but the power of Joshua could prove too much. We said that about Wilder though and he rose to the occasion in quite dramatic fashion in that first fight.

Both promoters will want fans to be inside Wembley Stadium for this one and it will undoubtedly be the biggest British fight of all time and perhaps even the biggest heavyweight title fight in history too.

Over the next few months there will be plenty of will they won’t they, particularly as Fury may have to fight Deontay Wilder first. Fury is expecting to fight before the end of the year to stay in shape, with Carlos Takam expected to be the man to take him on, then it will be full steam ahead into what should be an unforgettable year of heavyweight fighting.

Errol Spence v Terence Crawford

This is another fight which is well tackled about but there’s been no movement in getting it booked in. The welterweight division needs unifying and it would be a phenomenal bout if the opportunity arose.

It’s expected a deal will be done for next year, with Crawford doing plenty of talking in order to try and get the deal done.

Crawford will fight Kell Brook first though in a bout that will take place in November. Brook has proven a real champion over the years, but tasted defeat against Gennady Golovkin and Errol Spence back in 2016/17 and is now looking to rebuild his career with a few last big fights.

Crawford will fancy his chances against the Sheffield fighter, which will only get tongues wagging more about the big one next year.
