Alice, (Milla Jovovich) returns for her third outing in this action packed, zombie/science fiction movie…a movie in many ways that is influenced by the movies, Mad Max and Romero’s, Day of the Dead.
The Umbrella Cooperation has moved underground, in order to survive and find answers to the T Virus. The film also follows a band of survivors that travel around on reinforced vehicles, searching for oil and food, Alice, who is familiar to some of the convoys, personal from their days in, Racoon City, joins them not long after the convoy is attacked by birds infected with the T Virus. Reminds me slightly of the Zombie Flesh Eaters 2, when the birds attack the bus. The special effects are breathtaking and the acting all round excellent. I especially enjoyed one of the settings early in the movie when, Alice, goes to assist a distress call at a radio station, to find herself walking in to an ambush, led by a, mother and her sons, all of which are murderers and thieves with crazed zombie type dogs.
The movies antagonist being Dr. Sam Isaacs, (Iain Glen) one the leading scientist for the Umbrella Cooperation, is trying to find a cure for the, T virus that as gone global and believes the answers lye within Alice, as it seems her immune system as the ability to bond with the virus. He wants the capture of her, as the Cooperation’s top priority, but the board persuades him to clone her and use what he can in order to find a cure, until they can find her exact location. This leads to Dr. Isaacs, carrying out extreme experiments upon captured Zombie’s, turning them stronger and more ferocious.
Meanwhile the convoy heads out to Las Vegas in order to find oil so they can head for Alaska, believing it to be a safe haven from the virus, and as the convoy rolls in to Las Vegas, in which has been retaken by the desert, giving it an eerie end of the world feeling, turns out to be the battle ground for the attempted capture of, Alice. Dr. Isaacs, releasing his modified army of Zombies upon, Alice, and her friends.
The movie climaxes with a showdown between, Alice, and Dr Isaacs. The doctor having been bitten by a Zombie earlier during the attempted capture of, Alice, in Las Vegas, had since been injecting himself with a possible serum that he had been creating as a cure, though turns him in to a frightening mutant.
This movie is well worth a watch and understandable why it did so well in the box office.
Rating: 9/10
I also liked that movie. In my opinion, 9/10 is a bit generous! Here is why:
This Resident Evil movie is the first sequel whose story really segregates from the video game (for the good of the movies I would say) and therefore brings some intersting element to the story, such as the use of Alice as a weapon, etc. Nevertheless it remains a rather shallow sequel and I was rather disappointed by it. It is a great action movie with lots of hot chicks fighting, and the Mad Max atmosphere is nice, but that does not compensate for the lack of story and the overacting of some characters which can get really irritating at times. Easily my least favorite Resident Evil movie!
Thankyou for your feedback, “horror on screen,” and thankyou for pointing out to me some interesting facts regards “Resident Evil,” as regards the scoring 9/10, I was being favourable as it is a personal favourite of mine.
Thanks for answering, don’t worry, I just wanted to raise the debate 🙂
I personnaly like the second one best..probably because of the Nemesis mainly. Such a great-looking monster!
